Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. The Government requires all schools to report to parents on the amount of Pupil Premium Funding they receive each year and how it was/ is being used. Once the information becomes available, the impact of the funding will also be reported.

Clarendon Primary, like every other school in England, has received an amount of money from the Government called “Catch up funding”. It is up to school to decide how to use this extra funding to enable all children to catch up on the education they lost during the first lock down.

At Clarendon we have used it to pay for teaching assistants to deliver high quality small group and 1-1 interventions in all classes. These interventions will involve children from Year one to Year six. It is hoped that by focusing on gaps in learning, the children will make accelerated progress and hopefully, get back on track for age related expectations, by the end of the year.

Evidence indicates that small group and one to one interventions can be a powerful tool for supporting pupils. High-quality teaching should reduce the need for extra support, but it is likely that some children will require high quality, structured, targeted interventions to make progress. These interventions will be carefully targeted through identification and assessment of need and the intensity will be monitored.

The intervention will have structured supporting resources and lesson plans with clear objectives. Teaching assistants will follow the plan and structure of the interventions. Assessments will be used to identify appropriate children, guides areas for focus and track pupil progress. Connections will be made between the out-of-class learning in the interventions and classroom teaching.
