The computing lead schedules three parent workshops each year for all children throughout school.

Parents are shown how our school computing and ICT curriculum is taught, with E-safety at its heart.

During the parent workshops families will have the opportunity to learn alongside their children. Parents will be made aware of the school accounts the children will have access to as part of their learning. In the sessions, the importance of keeping usernames and passwords safe and secret from their friends is discussed at length.

Parents will learn about everyone’s role as a digital citizen. Families will be made aware how to report any unpleasant things that the children see or anything that makes them feel uncomfortable.

Discussions will be had around the importance of respecting other people’s work and property, not accessing, copying or removing information without the owners’ permission.

A key focus for school is teaching our children to be safe online at home. Sharing with families how we teach our children not to disclose or share any personal information about themselves or others. Extensive discussions are had around stranger danger, age restrictions, rules and responsible use of social media apps and gaming.

Parents play a vital role in the education of their children and in the monitoring of their children’s online usage. In this ever changing digital world, adults can sometimes be unsure how to respond to online risks and issues.

During the parent workshops, the computing lead will go through all school systems how we share online safety updates and any risks, e.g. specific apps. Resources are discussed that are regularly shared on Parent App for example, Newsletters, letters, website links, parent workshops, Safer Internet Day events, access to National Online Safety posters.
